The Days of Design Graduates STARTS 2010 is the starting position for students and
professionals of various fields to cooperate and exchange ideas, inventions and
discoveries.

| | | STARTS 2010 is aimed to address the students of other universities of Latvia to present design
as a synthesis of art and science, resulting in innovative products, services and problem
solutions; in addition, to encourage cooperation among students of various higher education
establishments during studies of bachelor and master's degree, and on production of thesis
works. By cooperation, we understand the sharing of ideas, knowledge and solutions, as well
as joint implementation thereof.
STARTS 2010 is a calling to think about common good, refining and maintaining people- and
nature-friendly existence in ecology, economy and ethics. Both the role and responsibility of
design is increasing in Latvian and global context, so in this year's thesis works we continue
to address social, economic and sustainability aspects. The designer is not only creating new
products, the material design is facing the intangible - strategies, scenarios, art.
STARTS 2010 is the exhibition of 31 thesis works from the Departments of Functional Design,
Metal Design and Environmental Art Academy of Latvia of Arts. The graduates have given a
start to their ideas and are waiting for public opinion and discussion.
The Days of Design Graduates will be held for the fourth year. It is not just an exhibition, not
only talks, it is not a conference or workshop. The Days of Design Graduates are a synthesis of
all the previous forms into a whole. As the public perception of design is changing, the
significance and scope of the event is increasing with every year.
A feature at this year's Days of Design Graduates STARTS 2010 is master's thesis work in design by
Inga Bermaka and Rihards Funts. Professor Holgers Elers is the thesis supervisor.

1:00PM Lecture "Science - Art. Engineers - Designers. Economists - Artists.
Different languages, different types of communication that need to be learned in
order to come to an understanding." Lecture read by architect, designer,
professor Andrejs Legzdins. In Latvian.
2:00PM Lecture "Barriers of negotiation and cooperation." Lecture read by
change management consultant, Dr. Atis Zakatistovs I - Boom. In Latvian.
3:15PM Lecture "Design & Engineering". Lecture read by the head of the
international interdisciplinary graduate programme "Design & Engineering"
(Estonian Academy of Arts / Tallinn Technological University), Professor Martin
Pärn. In English.
4:15PM Discussion among members of different fields, "Why cooperate?”
Discussion moderated by this year’s design master's graduate Kristaps
Grundšteins, everyone interested is invited. In Latvian.
